Week 6/4 Action 2: Ask Your Mayors to Generate (Clean) Power to Fuel Our Resistance

Cities are the drivers of progress and innovation, and through the Compact of Mayors, they can help nations set new, aggressive climate targets over the next year.
— Michael R. Bloomberg, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change

We have said it before--going local on climate makes sense. While the federal government and majority of states are currently Republican-controlled, the mayors of large cities are overwhelmingly Democrat. Cities also produce 70% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, so climate action by our mayors matters.

Already, in response to Trump’s withdrawal, at least 180 U.S. mayors representing more than 50 million Americans have committed to “adopt, honor, and uphold the commitments to the goals enshrined in the Paris Agreement.”  All-of-us must back this local movement.

Here’s how:

1. Read this statement by the #climatemayors in response to Trump’s Thursday withdrawal and see if your mayor has signed.

2. Call your mayor (you can find contact information on your new profile page) and use this script

3. Follow climate-mayors.org on Twitter and Facebook.
